ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE
Anti-Ragging Committee at Black Diamond College of Engineering & Technology, Jharsuguda
An Anti-Ragging Committee is set up Comprising Principal, senior Faculty Members, staff, students. In the case of any ragging incident, the students may immediately call and bring it to the notice of the members of the Anti-Ragging committee for necessary help, guidance and actions.
Anti-Ragging Measures
Ragging is a practice in educational institutions that involves existing students baiting or bullying new students. In the name of introduction or initiation, millions of students are brutally abused in many educational institutions. Historically originated, probably, to generate fellow-feeling or camaraderie and the ability to work in a team, it has metamorphosed into something else. It often takes a malignant form wherein the newcomers may be subjected to psychological or physical torture.
Under the pretext of ‘welcoming’ new students to the college, ragging is a notorious practice that gives senior students an excuse to harass their junior counterparts and make them easy targets to satiate their own perverse sadistic pleasures.
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the Institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging shall be any one or any combination of the following:
-
Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
-
Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits
-
Forfeiting Campus Placement opportunities / recommendations
-
Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process
-
Withholding of results
-
Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival etc.
-
Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
-
Cancellation of Admission
This committee will monitor the measures taken by the College for the prevention of ragging, will look into the specific instances of ragging and complaints of ragging; and suggest appropriate action/punishment against individuals who indulge in ragging.
This squad comprising teaching faculty / supporting staff, administrators and women representatives (various sections of the campus community) will have vigil, oversight and patrolling functions. It will be mobile, alert and active at all times and is empowered to periodically inspect places of potential ragging. It will make surprise raids on hostels and other hot spots. The squad shall investigate incidents of ragging, make recommendations to the Institution-level Anti-ragging committee and shall work under the overall guidance of the said committee.
The squad will visit various potential locations (as decided by the team), both inside and outside Govt. Polytechnic College campus, regularly on all days (on a rotational basis), from 8 AM to 5PM; will continuously monitor the situation and report to the anti-ragging committee from time to time.
